Bikes, Boards and Brews

Bikes, Boards and Brews, held at the Catamaran Resort, was a great event.  The flyer promised local craft beer, local cuisine, beach inspired art, live music and original bikes and boards.

The location and size of the festival were perfect.  The medium sized event was well suited for the beautiful location right on Mission Bay; the area was busy but not over crowded.  I was really happy with the overall variety of beer and food.  This festival delivered an amazing value for the $30 entry fee.

On entry you were given 10 drink tickets and your taster cup.  The booths were set up in a fenced in grass area that made walking around very comfortable.  There were not any lines longer than a few people and no shortage of beer or food.

Some of my favorite dishes were the poke from Duck Dive, the fish taco from Sand Bar Sports Grill and the chicken kabob from Amplified Ale Works.  It’s very difficult to choose an overall favorite dish, each of the three above were excellent, but I’m calling the fish taco my favorite.  Grilled fish balanced with a great assortment of fresh ingredients, I had to have a second to make sure the first one wasn’t a fluke.

My favorite beers of the day included Electrocution from Amplified Ale Works, Victory at Sea from Ballast Point and Hop Juice from Left Coast Brewing.  A honorable mention goes to Trumer Pils, in a town of big IPAs and heavy stouts it’s great to have a quality pilsner as contrast.  It also paired incredibly with the fish taco from Sand Bar.  My favorite beer was much easier to choose, Hop Juice from Left Coast Brewing gets my award.  A giant, super hopped double IPA that delivers smooth drinking and great earthy, dry finish.

Bikes, Boards and Brews delivered on all it’s promises and then some.  A great festival in a great location with a balance of quality beer, food, music, art, bikes and boards!  We have amazing beer and cuisine in San Diego and this festival was further proof of that.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  Thank you to Discover PB and San Diego City Beat for putting on an event they can be very proud of.
